1. Choose the Right Rear Camera

Before installing, you need to choose the right type of rearview camera for your vehicle. There are many different types of rearview cameras, including cameras integrated into the rearview mirror screen, cameras that display on the dashboard screen, or wireless cameras. Consider factors such as resolution, viewing angle, and waterproof features (IP rating) to ensure the camera works well in all weather conditions.

2. Prepare Necessary Tools

To install the rear camera, you will need the following tools:

  • Screwdrivers and wrenches for disassembling and assembling vehicle parts.
  • Small drill to drill camera mounting holes (if needed).
  • Electrical tape to protect electrical connections.
  • Crimping pliers for connecting electrical wires.
  • Rear camera and display screen.

3. Install Rear Camera

Step 1: Determine Camera Installation Location

The ideal location for a rearview camera is near the license plate, in the middle of the rear of the car. This gives the camera a wide and panoramic view of the rear. If necessary, you can drill a small hole to mount the camera or take advantage of the existing mounting holes on the car.

Step 2: Install the Rear Camera

Once you have determined the location, mount the camera in place and make sure it is securely fastened. Some cameras can be installed with 3M tape or the included screws. Make sure the camera cable is pulled into the vehicle through the available slots or holes to avoid weather damage.

4. Electrical Wiring

Wiring is the most important part of installing a rearview camera. Most rearview cameras need to be connected to your vehicle's reverse light system so they turn on automatically when you reverse.

Step 1: Connect the Power Cord

Connect the camera power cord to the power source from the reverse light system. The positive (+) power cord will connect to the positive wire of the reverse light, and the negative (-) power cord will connect to the vehicle's ground wire. Use electrical tape to cover the connections to ensure safety and avoid electrical short circuits.

Step 2: Connect the Signal Wire

The signal wire from the camera will be pulled from the rear of the car to the display screen in front. You can run the wire under the car floor mat or through the car's undercarriage slots to hide the wire and ensure aesthetics. Make sure the signal wire is not pinched or bent during installation.

5. Display Settings

Depending on the camera, the display may be built into the rearview mirror or a separate display. Install the display in a convenient location for viewing when backing up. If you are using a separate display, mount it to the dashboard or windshield using the included brackets.

After mounting the monitor, connect the signal wire from the camera to the monitor. Some monitors also need to be connected to the vehicle's power source to operate.

6. Final Inspection

After installation is complete, test the entire system to ensure that the camera is working properly. Start the car and put it in reverse mode to check that the camera displays a clear image on the screen. Make sure that the camera's viewing angle covers the entire rear of the car and that there are no blind spots.

If there is no picture or there is a problem with the signal, check the electrical connections and signal wires to correct the problem.

Install rear camera

Installing a rearview camera at home is not too complicated if you have all the tools and follow each step carefully. A rearview camera not only helps you reverse more safely but also brings peace of mind while driving. Make sure you choose the right type of camera and install it correctly to get the best results.
